The Science Center also offers organized field-trip programs, although families can visit independently as well. With more than 100 interactive exhibits, WonderWorks combines science, technology, engineering, art and math with hands-on activities. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Best for: Space • NASA • STEM • Engineering • Elementary through high school

Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens — Sanford

Families can explore the zoo independently, while organized groups can choose educational programs, animal encounters, tours and customized learning experiences. Oakland Nature Preserve — Oakland
Best for: Florida ecosystems • Wildlife • Nature • FREE/low-cost learning
One of the best easy field-trip options near Winter Garden. Families can explore trails, the boardwalk to Lake Apopka, native plants and wildlife, and the Environmental Education Center.
Admission to the preserve, trails and museum is free, with donations encouraged. The accessible boardwalk is about two-thirds of a mile and leads to a pavilion overlooking Lake Apopka.

Harry P. Leu Gardens — Orlando
Best for: Botany • Plants • Ecology • Nature study
Explore acres of gardens filled with tropical plants, flowers, trees and themed collections. Leu Gardens also offers the Leu for Youth program for PreK–12 groups, which currently provides complimentary admission for qualifying self-guided school field trips. Leu Gardens

Showcase of Citrus — Clermont
Best for: Agriculture • Florida history • Ecosystems • Animals
This working citrus and cattle ranch turns Florida agriculture into a hands-on lesson. Families can explore citrus production, animals, pollinators, ecosystems, gem mining and farm life. Green Meadows Petting Farm — Kissimmee

A little farther from Orlando, but worth including. Cracker Country is a rural Florida living-history museum featuring original historic structures dating from approximately 1870–1912. 💛 Choosing a Field Trip💛
Not every field trip needs to be a formal homeschool program.
A regular family visit can become a homeschool day with a little intention. Before you go, consider:
What are we learning about?
Connect the trip to something your child is currently studying.
Can we prepare beforehand?
Watch a short video, read a book, look at a map, or talk about what you expect to see.
Does the location offer educator resources?
Many attractions have free scavenger hunts, worksheets, lesson plans or activity guides online.
Is there a homeschool discount?
Always check before buying tickets. Some attractions offer homeschool pricing only on certain dates or require proof of homeschooling.
Do we need a group?
Formal field-trip rates frequently require a minimum number of students, but you can often visit independently at the normal admission rate.

A field trip does not have to be expensive — or even officially called a “field trip” — to count as learning.
Nature preserves, gardens, historic downtowns, libraries, wildlife areas and community programs can turn an ordinary day out into a lesson in science, history, geography, art or life skills.
Follow your child’s curiosity. That’s where some of the best homeschool days begin.
