New to homeschooling in Florida? These are the official resources you’ll want to know about first.
1. File Your Letter of Intent
To begin a Florida home education program, you’ll need to notify your local school district in writing. Florida requires the notice within 30 days of establishing your home education program.

2. Keep a Portfolio
Florida home education families are required to keep a portfolio of educational records. This should include a log of educational activities and reading materials, plus samples of your child’s work.
Keep the portfolio for 2 years.

3. Complete an Annual Evaluation
Florida home education students must complete an annual educational evaluation to show educational progress. Parents can choose from several approved evaluation options under Florida law.

4. File a Letter of Termination When You’re Done
When you end your Florida home education program, you’ll need to notify your local school district in writing. Florida law also requires the final annual evaluation to be submitted within 30 days of termination.

You do not need a Florida teaching certificate to homeschool your child.
Florida home education programs are also not required to follow the public school “school day” requirements.
